Joy and Ralph Ellis Stadium

Joy and Ralph Ellis Stadium

If you’ve never heard of the Joy and Ralph Ellis Stadium, don’t worry- you’re not alone. The stadium is located at 600 East 6th Street, Irving, and has a capacity of 12,500. The stadium was initially named Irving Schools Stadium but was renamed Joy and Ralph Ellis in 2000 after the death of Joy Ellis, who donated much of the money for its construction to Irving ISD. And this is just one example among many that shows how football can bring communities together and create memories that last a lifetime.

The stadium was built in 1965 with a track around the football field. It could hold up to 15,000 fans when it was built, but as attendance grew larger and larger, the track was removed. In 1985 the stadium received an expansion which brought its capacity to its current size of 12,500. The stadium had not had an actual name change since 2000 when Joy Ellis donated much of the money for its construction to Irving ISD.

In 2006 the stadium was used for the filming of Failure to Launch. It has also been used for Metro Cup high school soccer matches, international club friendlies, and several music concerts. The stadium even hosts to an international football club, FC Dallas.

Irving ISD has used the stadium many times for its sporting events. Student-athletes from DISD have competed at Joy & Ralph Ellis Stadium in track & field, particularly USA Track and Field and soccer matches.

In 2011 the stadium was even used for an international friendly between Mexico and Paraguay. The stadium worked well as a venue for this event as it could hold up to 12,500 spectators.

This stadium is no “trophy” venue, but it has indeed been worth the price for Irving ISD, which has saved a lot of money since no renovations have been needed since the last expansions in 1985.

This stadium will continue to be used for sports and events by Irving ISD throughout the years and will be used as a community center for many more years. It is located near a beautiful Lake Lewisville, one of the few places you can go to escape from the city lights and enjoy some peace and quiet. Browse next article.

Many communities have benefited from the construction of stadiums. Irving ISD has seen a positive change since the construction of Joy & Ralph Ellis Stadium. There is an area for playing sports, with a running track and stadium, which can also be used as a venue for events. The stadium can be used as a community center by students from DISD, and someday it might become one. This project shows how football can bring communities together and create memories that last a lifetime through athletic events, such as the UIL playoff game this season between Irving High School and North Garland High School.
